TUI Travel has analysed data from 13 of its source markets across Europe to compare summer holiday booking similarities and differences.

The company studied booking patterns in the UK & Ireland, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France and Russia to reveal the top holiday destinations, average length of stay and favourite time of the year to travel.

Key findings included that the UK & Ireland’s top summer holiday destinations for 2013 were Turkey, Greece and the Balearic Islands, with Mexico the most popular for long-haul travel.

The research also revealed that UK & Ireland consumers were among the first to book, along with those in Switzerland and Germany, with Russians the last.

Average length of holiday across all source markets was found to be nine days, with the French taking the shortest breaks (seven days) and the Dutch the longest (11). The average for UK & Ireland travellers is ten days.

Johan Lundgren, deputy chief executive of TUI Travel, commented: ‘This survey has given us real insight into the key similarities and differences between our source markets.

‘Identifying holiday trends for 2013 helps ensure we really know our customers and can tailor holidays so they get the best possible service and holiday experience from us.’
