Rocky Point removed from Mexico travel warning

The U.S. State Department has removed Puerto PeƱasco from its list of areas to avoid in Sonora, Mexico.

It advises motorists to enter Mexico at Lukeville, the nearest Arizona border city to the beach community also known as Rocky Point, to minimize the amount of time spent driving in Mexico. Tourists also are advised to drive only during daylight hours and on main roads.

The department still warns against non-essential travel between Nogales and Sonoyta and Caborca and to avoid the part of Sonora that borders Chihuahua. The updated warning is available at travel.state.gov.
